“It is truly great when you find organizations that just want to do something from their heart,” said Hui Hoʻomalu’s Community Relations Manager, Carol Hayashida. 

The 18-acre property is an aquaponics and hydroponics farm that promotes sustainable living, organic urban farming, and buying local. They offer fresh vegetables, fruits and fish, as well as farm tours, farm-to-table hosted dinners, workshop events, and more.

The results of our end-of-year giving campaign far surpassed our expectations, and is a testament to the incredible generosity of our supporters.

Our goal was to raise $3,000 from GivingTuesday to the end of the year. We more than doubled our goal, raising $7,036.

We are extremely fortunate to continue our Kahiau partnership with American Savings Bank (ASB). This year, we were one of five organizations to benefit from the generous campaign.

“We are deeply grateful to ASB for its substantial financial support over the years,” said Dr. Michael Chun, Chairman of the Board for Partners in Development Foundation (PIDF). “What is most important to me is our shared goals to improve the lives of those most in need, and to strengthen the health and well-being of our community.”

The mission of ASB’s campaign can be found in the definition of the Hawaiian word, “kahiau” which means, “to give from the heart without expecting anything in return.”

The corporate culture of ASB holds service to the community in utmost regard. Employees and their families are able to engage with service and giving in many different ways throughout the year, all facilitated through American Savings Bank.

95% of the bank’s more than 1,100 employees contributed to this year’s Kahiau Campaign, which ran from February to March and featured a “Lego Movie” theme.

ASB presented a check to PIDF at a presentation and pau hana reception. The event included an exclusive tour of ASB’s beautiful brand-new campus on the outskirts of Honolulu. Dr. Chun calls ASB’s decision to relocate its campus off of North Beretania Street “a mark of courage.”

“While others might have run from a depressed neighborhood, ASB ran to one of Honolulu’s most challenging communities” and in doing so, “demonstrate the highest level of corporate leadership and civic responsibility,” he said.

The bake sale event takes place each year at the Dole Cannery second floor atrium where many businesses in the building come out to support the keiki. The event has really grown over the years and now also includes a silent auction and rummage sale. Total sales from the event this year generated over $7,000 to support foster families in Hawaiʻi.

The competition was fierce but all to support a greater cause. The tournament was a way for our organization to raise money to continue the work we do with helping children and families living in some of the most vulnerable communities throughout the state.

The Hawaiian music entertainment and buffet dinner was the perfect way to finish off a round at the beautiful Kaneohe Klipper Course on MCBH. And to top it off, Stanford Carr Development hosted the open bar!

We are so grateful for all who were a part of this wonderful event and look forward to seeing you next year!

Our family is very grateful for the work and efforts of Partners In Development Foundation. Our son Casden attended the Tūtū and Me Traveling Preschool this past year and had a fabulous experience. Just the other day he asked us, “When Tūtū and Me ends, can I sign up for it again?” That was a sure sign to us that he enjoyed the program. The teachers at the Pauoa site were organized and enthusiastic and made us feel welcome and comfortable from the start. We were impressed by their sincere interest in the children and the program. Throughout the school year they provided the children with interesting projects and learning activities. We will always be grateful for the privilege we had of participating in Tūtū and Me.

Last weekend we held a fundraiser at our home to raise money for the homeless and foster children that PIDF supports. Over 30 families joined us for a Kids Carnival. Our intent in planning the Kids Carnival was to encourage our children and their friends to think of others and to provide them with an opportunity to raise funds that would totally benefit others. Through the generous support of friends and family we raised $751.

We hope that the funds will be used to positively impact the lives of children in a individual way. One way we thought funds could be used is to celebrate the birthdays of children who otherwise may not have their birthdays celebrated or remembered. During the holidays children in need are often remembered through toy drives and other service projects, but their birthdays may be overlooked. We feel it is important to help children know that their birth on this earth and their existence is important and worth celebrating. Your leaders may know of other ways the funds may be used to bless the lives of children in a personal and meaningful way.

Please know that the great work you do to serve different segments of the community in Hawai’i is recognized and appreciated.

Our staff and families from Kapa‘a and Anahola held their Lovebug Fun Run/Walk fundraiser at Lydgate Park and utilized a section of the walking/biking path. Families came with strollers, wagons, scooters, and bikes. Although there were strong winds, the sun was out and families enjoyed the day.

The Kaua’i West team held their Keiki Color Fun Run fundraiser at both Kekaha and Hanapēpē parks. The keiki enjoyed an obstacle course and received color powder puffs at different stages in the course. At the end of the course the keiki were treated to an overhead water sprinkler to cool off from the bright sunny day!

We all agreed that both events were very successful in not just fundraising but also in “fun” raising!
