Residents who meet the requirements will be able to replace their high-energy-consuming appliances with new ENERGY STAR models, resulting in annual savings of up to $500.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Appliance Trade-up Program: Edward Kaiama\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LG7mhVI-Y4s?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the success of its first campaign that ended in April, the Hawai\u02bbi Energy Waim\u0101nalo Appliance Trade-Up program will begin its second campaign for additional residents to trade up their appliances. Hawai\u02bbi Energy will offer up to 75 refrigerator or freezer exchanges. A grant from The First Hawaiian Bank Foundation for $25,000 will enable PIDF and Hawai\u02bbi Energy to exchange an additional 50 washers or dryers. The collaborative program and funding will allow residents to trade up their old, energy consuming appliances for only $250, for a total savings of $750 per appliance.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hawai\u2018i has the nation\u2019s highest electricity rates with costs generally around three times more than the national average. An old refrigerator uses about twice as much energy as a new ENERGY STAR certified refrigerator. Energy conservation and efficiency is the easiest and most affordable way for residents to save money on their electric bill.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pidf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Kaiama-Ohana-1-1400x1400.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18511\" width=\"316\" height=\"316\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pidf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Kaiama-Ohana-1-1400x1400.jpg 1400w, https:\/\/pidf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Kaiama-Ohana-1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/pidf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Kaiama-Ohana-1-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/pidf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Kaiama-Ohana-1-760x760.jpg 760w, https:\/\/pidf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Kaiama-Ohana-1-1536x1536.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/pidf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Kaiama-Ohana-1-scaled.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/pidf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Kaiama-Ohana-1-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pidf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Kaiama-Ohana-1-600x600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/pidf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Kaiama-Ohana-1-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 316px) 100vw, 316px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe energy usage consumption, especially when you&#8217;re retired, and on a fixed income, any way you can save money and learn how to reduce your carbon footprint on our planet is a plus,\u201d said Edward Kaiama, Waim\u0101nalo resident and long-time participant of N\u0101 Pono No N\u0101 \u02bbOhana.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Waim\u0101nalo residents who participated in the Hawai\u02bbi Energy program are also eligible to join the Energy UNPLUGGED community educational workshop as well as the Energy Smart 4 Homes program, which are free services that will pair residents with trained professionals and educational resources to best equip their homes. Participants in the program will receive products such as energy-efficient LED light bulbs, advanced power strips and more, valued at over $150 and can reduce electricity costs for each household by up to $160 per year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA key focus area for Hawai\u2018i Energy is to make energy-saving programs and tech more accessible and more affordable to residents and businesses across the state,\u201d said Caroline Carl, Executive Director of Hawai\u02bbi Energy. \u201cFamilies like those that PIDF serves are often on fixed incomes or have larger households, which means they stand to benefit even more financially than the average resident from having a lower electric bill, and they can direct more of their household income toward other needs.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>N\u0101\u00a0Pono No N\u0101 \u02bbOhana is a free, comprehensive family education program in Waim\u0101nalo where \u02bbohana come to learn together.
