The intent is to create positive relationships that will influence the mentees&#8217; decision-making and encourage them to have high expectations for their own futures after high school.<\/p>\n<p>There are two components: Model Rocket Building and Fine Arts. The mentorships allow for closer connections between teaching staff and students who may be struggling or are at-risk. It has opened doors for the instructors to talk about resources and services available to the youth and their families, such as food drives.<\/p>\n<p>Our children are the community&#8217;s treasures and represent our future leaders.\u00a0Ka Hana No&#8217;eau seeks to nurture the potential within our youth and to help broaden their perspectives on positive and sustainable choices. It is also recognized that traditional values and culture of Hawai&#8217;i are vital qualities that must be present in the in the program and curriculum.<\/p>\n<p>In the past, Ka Hana No\u02bbeau impacted the lives of hundreds of students in the rural districts of North Kohala, H\u0101m\u0101kua, and South Kona on Hawai\u02bbi Island.\u00a0Ka Hana No\u02bbeau has developed engaging mentorship programs for Hawaiian youth that meld traditional and contemporary knowledge in support of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).<\/p>\n\t\t<h3>\n\t\t\tProgram Components\n\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pidf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/divider_dashed_white.png\" alt=\"Program Components\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tModel Rocket Building\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tFine Arts\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tModel Rocket Building\n\t\t\t\t<h4>The goal of the Model Rocket Building mentorship is to design, construct, launch, and later recover rockets while incorporating STEAM skills.\u00a0<\/h4>\n<p>Instruction has been held virtually over Google Classroom to communicate safely with the mentees, with the mentor dropping off supplies and picking up work from the youths&#8217; homes.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tFine Arts\n\t\t\t\t<h4>The Fine Arts mentorship teaches drawing, painting, and some sculpture.<\/h4>\n\t\t<h2>\n\t\t\tRecent News\n\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pidf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/divider_2.png\" alt=\"Recent News\" \/>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ka Hana No\u02bbeau is a youth mentorship initiative in Honoka\u02bba on Hawai\u02bbi Island.
