Volunteers from a number of different unions and organizations came together to not only beautify the grounds but to spend time with the residents doing a variety of activities. The goal? To make a difference in the community by giving of one\u2019s time, energy, passion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNelson Mandela International Day was launched in recognition of Nelson Mandela\u2019s birthday on July 18, 2009 via unanimous decision of the UN General Assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was inspired by a call Nelson Mandela made a year earlier, for the next generation to take on the burden of leadership in addressing the world\u2019s social injustices when he said that \u201cit is in your hands now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is more than a celebration of Mandela\u2019s life and legacy.
