{"id":4575,"date":"2014-06-09T03:54:00","date_gmt":"2014-06-09T07:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pidf.org\/\/?p=4575"},"modified":"2020-08-28T15:56:37","modified_gmt":"2020-08-28T19:56:37","slug":"hawaiian-thought-of-the-week-ahonui","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pidf.org\/hawaiian-thought-of-the-week-ahonui\/","title":{"rendered":"Hawaiian Thought of the Week: Ahonui"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Ahonui<\/strong>: patient, enduring, long suffering; to tolerate<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When we hear the word patience we tend to think of situations in which we are actually impatient; having to stand in long lines, waiting for someone to finish eating so we can all leave the table after dinner or literally sitting at a stop light for five minutes watching all the cars go in the opposite direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Much more than merely being patient, ahonui literally means \u201cgreat breath.\u201d If we can just pause sometimes and take a \u201cdeep breath,\u201d we would actually have the time to take a step back and reflect upon what&#8217;s happening around us. It is a reflection of our ability to practice endurance, tolerance and acceptance in situations that we find challenging.
