{"id":5438,"date":"2009-05-21T15:56:43","date_gmt":"2009-05-22T01:56:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pidf.org\/?p=5438"},"modified":"2020-09-22T16:01:44","modified_gmt":"2020-09-23T02:01:44","slug":"partners-in-development-foundation-celebrates-national-foster-care-month-at-the-windward-mall-with-rekindle-hope-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pidf.org\/partners-in-development-foundation-celebrates-national-foster-care-month-at-the-windward-mall-with-rekindle-hope-event\/","title":{"rendered":"Partners in Development Foundation Celebrates National Foster Care Month at the Windward Mall with \u201cRekindle Hope\u201d Event"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>To celebrate the month of May 2009 as National Foster Care Month, Partners in Development Foundation, Kokua \u2018Ohana, Hui Ho\u2018omalu, and its partnering organizations of the \u201cFoster Care Training Committee*\u201d collaborated with the management of Windward Mall to honor our foster youth and resource families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hosted at the Mall\u2019s Center Stage by MC\u2019s Marty Oliphant and Billy V, \u201cRekindle Hope\u201d featured lots of activities, on stage testimonials, and award winning entertainment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal of the event was to collaboratively inspire our communities to consider fostering through education and outreach, and to provide a venue for community partners to share their resources and services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The testimonials given by former foster children who are now adults, like Rachel Cruz and Blake Lanoza were inspirational. While both took the stage to entertain the crowd, they also shared personal stories of growing up as a foster child. Blake is now President of the Hawai\u2018i Foster Youth Coalition, and Rachel is an aspiring recording artist who performed her original composition \u201cBack Where I Belong\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Newly recruited foster parent Sam Kapu III, and Na Hoku Hanohano Award winner Kawika Kahiapo entertained the crowd with wonderful Hawaiian music befitting an event of this kind. Communities in Schools demonstrated an intergenerational celebration of Hawaiian values.
